Atlanta Dream star Brittney Griner denied making a derogatory remark about Caitlin Clark in her team’s 81-76 loss to the Indiana Fever on May 22.

Conservative activist Riley Gaines and others circulated a video of Griner reacting to a foul call, and they alleged without any tangible evidence that the 10-time All-Star called Clark a “f–king white girl.”

Following the Dream’s 89-56 win over the Washington Mystics on Sunday, Griner told OutKick’s Dan Zaksheske she didn’t remember what she specifically said from the bench but that it wasn’t what the amateur lip-readers asserted:

Griner became a regular source of antagonism from conservatives since she was unlawfully detained in Russia in 2022.

In 2023, a “provocateur” approached Griner as she and her Phoenix Mercury teammates were in the concourse of Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport for a flight. Local police were called to the scene.

The 34-year-old is in her first season with the Dream after having spent her first 11 years in Phoenix. She’s averaging 10.8 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game, and Atlanta is sitting third in the WNBA standings at 8-3.
